All stages before obtaining Ukrainian citizenship by marriage
Many foreigners, upon arrival in Ukraine, are looking for options on how to stay here as long as possible. Many people choose the option of marrying a Ukrainian woman, or they come to their girlfriend who has a permanent residence permit and marry her.
If you arrange everything in stages, then a foreigner comes to Ukraine (some countries do not have a visa-free regime with Ukraine, so such a foreigner will need a C visa – a tourist visa to enter Ukraine). After arrival, the foreigner has a legal interruption period, during which the marriage must be registered. On average, marriage registration takes up to a week. After that, the foreigner leaves Ukraine and receives a D visa at any embassy or consulate based on marriage and comes to Ukraine again.
The D visa is considered a long-term visa and its validity last for 90 days. During these 90 days, a foreigner must submit documents to obtain a Temporary Residence Permit (this document is prepared within 15 working days), therefore, documents must be submitted no later than 75 days of interruption in Ukraine on a D visa, otherwise, your documents will simply not be accepted.
The temporary residence permit must be renewed once a year, and documents must be submitted no later than 15 days before the end of the previous residence permit. You must be married for at least 2 years to apply for immigration.
After a foreigner has been married to a Ukrainian woman for 2 years or to a foreign woman who has a permanent residence permit, after which this foreigner submits documents to the State Migration Service to obtain an immigration permit.
Important! If your wife is a foreigner with a permanent residence permit, then in addition to the usual list of documents, you will also need:
- Certificate 028 and a certificate from a narcologist;
- Police clearance certificate legalized in Ukraine and translated into Ukrainian;
- Translation of your passport;
- And your wife’s consent to your immigration and your support.
After that, you wait about a year to receive a response from the Migration Service about granting you an immigration permit. If the answer is yes, we proceed to the next stage.
Upon receiving a positive result regarding an immigration permit, such a foreigner must obtain a permanent residence permit. A permanent residence permit is also made within 15 days and upon receipt of this document, a stamp is put in the passport of your country on the receipt of this document. Then you can safely apply for citizenship.
Applying for citizenship takes 1 day, but the collection of documents can take forever. The first thing you need is a bank statement that your account has 30 thousand hryvnias (information as of 06/21/21), you also need a translation and certified copies of all pages of your passport and other documents that are specified in the law.
A year after the approval of your candidacy as a citizen of Ukraine, the President of Ukraine signs a decree on your acceptance of citizenship.
BUT! It sounds very easy, in practice, the difficulties begin with finding a wife, then when applying for an immigration permit, you will be very lucky if all your documents are accepted the first time and are not refused. Very often they like to refuse because of a fake registration, that is, a person (foreigner) is registered somewhere, but does not live there. Therefore, when buying an address, double-check everything or contact a specialist to be sure. Further, the problem may become the filing of documents for citizenship, since the migration service first checks and they may not like something, namely a series of marriage certificates that are not in the database and you need to look for it in the archives (no one will do this) and you will be sent a refusal … Therefore when going through each stage, contact the specialists who will help you deal with all the problems.
